I'm working on a large project that uses Flash Remoting with a C# back end. We have bought four copies of SC because we consider it to be absolutely invaluable for our current work. But we have recently found that it will not work at all when we run the project and point at a particular Developers PC.

Is there a check list of possible causes that you could suggest?

Edit:
Further information: i'm using the latest version, 1.2.1.

It would be helpful if you could provide a little more detail on what "not work at all" means. Also what browser or tools you are using when you expect to see traffic.

Most common problems:
- accessing "127.0.0.1" instead of "localhost", IE shortcircuits the first.
- A Dialup or VPN Connection configured under IE, Internet Options Connection, if your not using this delete it since it overrides the LAN settings.
- Proxy server on your network configured with "Automatic Detection" or "Automatic Script" under LAN Connection settings. Uncheck these and manually configure the proxy under the bottom area in LAN connection settings.

Ok, i'll go into a bit more detail. We have four Front End Flash Developers (i'm one of them) and two Back End C# Developers. I am using MSIE 6.0 as my browser. When i test the project i must first edit an aspx file to point at a particular server. This will either be our Development server or one of the C# Developer's PC's.

Service Capture works perfectly if i point at the Development Server or the first Back End Developer's PC. However if i point at the second Back Developer's PC, as soon as i start up SC i will stop receiving any data from his PC. This is the message that i get in SC:

HTTP/1.1 401 Access Denied
Server: Microsoft-IIS/5.1
Date: Mon, 30 Jan 2006 13:20:34 GMT
WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate
WWW-Authenticate: NTLM
Content-Length: 4046
Content-Type: text/html

It looks like the server is requiring some type of authentication, probably NTLM. SC does not currently support this. NTLM is not firewall or proxy friendly authentication scheme. Is it possible for that developer to change authentication scheme or turn it off? It seems odd that different developers would be using different schemes within the same environment.

Thank you for your support. The problem is now fixed. Suffice to say it was something to do with permissions.

I found a way to fix this. ServiceCapture 1.2.12 now supports NTLM.
